In January 2007, sixteen people from our church travelled to Nicaragua on a two-week mission trip. While there, they began construction on a school at an educational farm and hosted two medical clinics, treating nearly 160 patients. The participants visited a dozen of the Presbyterian Church’s mission partners to learn more about their work. It was an illuminating and life-changing experience for the participants and they now have a better appreciation of their lives and a better understanding of God’s desire for us to help others.
In the Summer of 2008, a dozen of our young people travelled to Winnipeg, Manitoba, for a mission trip. They volunteered at Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank and at the Winnipeg Inner City Missions running a Vacation Bible School and setting up a storage area. They also visited a Hutterite colony to gain a perspective on a different religious community. This is the third group of youth that have travelled to Winnipeg and all the participants have demonstrated a deeper understanding and appreciation of the challenges facing our aboriginal communities upon their return.
Mission Capsules are brief synopses of the work being done by International and Canada Ministries staff and Justice Ministries partners. They are published to keep Presbyterians informed of how their gifts to Presbyterians Sharing provide support for the work of mission staff in Canada and around the world.
